Leah was born and raised in Boise, Idaho where she received the majority of her dance training. She started at age seven at a local studio where she learned jazz, ballet, pointe, tap, hip-hop, lyrical, and also danced competitively. In high school, she joined a pre-professional contemporary company called Focus Dance Ensemble, and she competed on her high school dance team. At sixteen she began training with Marla Hansen, the ballet director at Boise State University. Leah has her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Exercise Science from Boise State University. For two years in college, she danced with the professional contemporary company Idaho Dance Theatre. In 2014, Leah attended Hubbard Street Dance Company’s month-long summer intensive in Chicago. There she trained in ballet, contemporary, and choreography from Hubbard Street’s very own company dancers. From 2016-2017 Leah performed with and was captain of the Boise State Mane Line Dancers. Here she refined her jazz, pom, cheer, and sideline technique. The Mane Line Dancers competed in Anaheim, California at the USA Collegiate Championships. With Leah at the helm, they received 2nd place in jazz and 5th in hip-hop against some of the top schools in the northwest area.
Leah has been teaching dance for nine years in addition to coaching high school teams. She loves to incorporate her Kinesiology education into her dance teaching with appropriate warm-up and stretching techniques and her knowledge of anatomy informs the way she communicates with her students. Leah strives to create a positive and inclusive learning environment where dancers can learn leadership and life skills in addition to receiving exceptional dance training. Leah has a deep passion for dance that shines through her teaching. We are thrilled to have her as part of our Rising Star staff!
